Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over telephone and condemned the Guwahati bomb blast in which at least two people were killed.

New Delhi, June 23 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today spoke to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over telephone and condemned the Guwahati bomb blast in which at least two people were killed.

Singh condemned the blast and conveyed his condolences to families of the deceased.

At least two people were killed and nine injured in a bomb blast triggered off by the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in front of a mosque in Guwahati's busy Machkhowa commercial area around 7.30 a.m.

The bomb was attached to a bicycle kept near the entrance of the market.

The PM also expressed his symapthies for the flood affected people in the State and extended all help to deal with the situation.

The first wave of floods in Assam has affected about 1.45 lakh people in 192 villages across five districts. The floodwaters of the Brahmaputra, the Barak and their tributaries have also destroyed the standing crop in 2,655 hectares.

In Karimganj District, the floodwaters overtopped a dyke and entered Karimganj town. While in Cachar District, floodwaters have entered Silchar town. The state administration officials are constantly monitoring water levels of Bramhaputra, army and paramilitary troops have been put on a standby.
