Tamil Nadu doc rubbishes teenaged sons surgery feat; terms it conspiracy

A doctor in Tamil Nadu, who allegedly tried to get his 15-year-old son into the record books by allowing him to perform a caesarean operation, today said the accusation was a ploy by his detractors to defame him.

Mannaparrai (TN), June 22 : A doctor in Tamil Nadu, who allegedly tried to get his 15-year-old son into the record books by allowing him to perform a caesarean operation, today said the accusation was a ploy by his detractors to defame him.

Dr. Murugan rubbished the media reports that he made a video recording of his son Dhileepan Raj, a tenth standard student, operating on a 20-year-old woman and later gave it to other doctors in the hope of making his son attain the world's youngest surgeon record.

"So far the news that has come in all the newspapers and television channels is a lie, exaggerated lie. There's not even a one percent truth in this...It is a total lie. Those who are jealous of my work have spread it. My son was not at all involved in any surgical procedure. My version is that I am a surgeon and I performed the surgery," he said.

His clarification comes after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said it has taken serious notice of the act, which is totally against medical ethics.

Authorities have even said that a probe has been ordered into the incident.

"An enquiry has been ordered and the deputy director of Services and Joint Director of Medical Services will look into all the facts. If we see a criminal misconduct into the report, then we will take legal consultations," said Ashish Vatsani, top official of Trichy district.

Murugan said the woman on whom the surgery was performed was his relative, but has refused to reveal her identity.

Murugan's family had earlier stated that the boy was only helping out in the operation, handing out medical instruments to his father.
