New Delhi/Washington, June 21 : The world is watching with bated breath as Indian origin American astronomer Sunita Williams and the rest of the crew on board the space shuttle Atlantis makes its final descent to Earth after having undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) earlier yesterday.
But now her well-wishers will have something more to cheer about, courtesy a book by Indian publishing major Rupa and Co., which has contributions made by Sunita herself while she was in space.
A book on high profile astronaut is nothing new, but this one promises to be different.
Co-authored by Aradhika Sharma and Capt. Seshadri, the book titled 'Sunita Williams Achiever Extraordinaire', besides featuring write ups by Sunita herself, is also studded with information provided by Sunita's parents Dr. Deepak and Mrs. Bonnie Pandya, who live in Falmouth, Massachusetts, USA, her sister Dina and her brother Jay.
To top it all, the book contains personal and family photographs of Sunita, starting from her childhood, when she wore her first Indian dress; to the first time she wrote the word "Ram" on a sand dune; her marriage to Michael J. Williams and her sojourn in space.
Born on September 19, 1965 in Euclid, Ohio, USA, Sunita Lyn (Pandya) Williams, (Commander, US Navy) set a record-setting sojourn in space, lasting well over six months.
According to the publishers, the book, with a foreword by Wg Cdr Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian in space, and an introduction by Sunita's mother, Bonnie Pandya, provides a never-before access to the life of the astronaut, profiling various facets of her personal and professional life.
