New Delhi, June 21 : The All India Minorities Front (AIMF) today sought immediate central assistance for the flood victims of Assam while accusing the State Government of failing to provide adequate relief.
AIMF president SM Asif said in a statement that the current wave of flood has so far claimed 15 lives, affected more than two lakh people and inundated 81.754 hectares of land in eleven districts across the State.
Flood waters have inundated vast tracts of land in both Upper and Lower Assam in Brahmputra Valley as well as the districts in Barak Valley, he quoted official sources in Guwahati, as saying.
Asif said that a large number of Muslims have been affected by the floods and have lost their live stocks and fields in the floods. "They have not even been placed in proper relief camps and a large number are still trapped in their own villages under flood," he said.
He went on to say that neglect of Muslims in the matter of relief would not be tolerated and urged the Central and State Governments to come to immediate rescue of the flood victims.
He added that it is a natural calamity, and the State Government should leave its political considerations and take a human approach towards the flood victims.
