Business students in Pune today launched a campaign for inclusion of the Taj Mahal in the list of New Seven Wonders of the World.
Pune, June 20 : Business students in Pune today launched a campaign for inclusion of the Taj Mahal in the list of 'New Seven Wonders of the World'.
Hundreds of students of ICFAI Business School, wearing stark-white t-shirts with "Vote for Taj" and a picture of the monument of love printed on it in black, marched through streets as part of the campaign.
"Today, Taj stands at number 10. It will be a thing of national pride for us if Taj Mahal will be included in seven wonders. Therefore, we think that voting for Taj is necessary," said Dhananjay Keskar, a professor at the Business School.
Priyanka Rastogi, a student, said they aimed at creating awareness among the masses and encourage people to vote.
"We want to create awareness among people to include Taj Mahal in (the list of) seven wonders again," she said.
From India's Taj Mahal to Mexico's Mayan ruins, suggestions for seven new Wonders of the World have flooded in from more than 60 million people in one of the biggest global polls ever conducted.
With just over two weeks to go, votes have been pouring in from across the globe.
The leading sites have so far included the Taj Mahal, the Coliseum in Rome, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the mysterious stone statues of Easter Island.
The organisation conducting the poll was set up by Swiss-Canadian adventurer Bernard Weber. The results will be announced in Portugal's Benfica Stadium of Light on July 7.
