PM signs nomination for UPA-Left presidential candidate Pratibha Patil

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday signed the nomination form of Prathiba Patil-- the United Progressive Alliance-Left candidate for the upcoming Presidential polls.

New Delhi/Amrawati (Maharastra), June19 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday signed the nomination form of Prathiba Patil-- the United Progressive Alliance-Left candidate for the upcoming Presidential polls.

The Congress-led coalition chose the Rajasthan Governor over Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to contest the election, which will be held on July 19.

Meanwhile, Prathiba's husband Devi Singh Shekhawat said in Amravati that whatever she has achieved in her career was due to her hard work.

"All that she is today has been because of her hard work. I have never interfered in her work but wherever she wanted help, I was there for her," Devi Singh Shekhawat said.

"Even when she was a Governor, she worked humbly. She has been an inspiration for a lot of people," he added.

Devi Singh, a teacher by profession, originally belongs to Rajasthan but migrated to Maharashtra.

Prathiba became a councilor for the first time at the age of 26. She has also played a leading role in setting up educational institutions for the poor in her native state.

She also set up an industrial training school for the visually impaired, besides organising vocational classes for poor and needy women.
