Bhopal, June 18 : A lot of people in Bhopal have turned an agitated lot due to unexpected guests visiting their homes at the twilight hours these days. The problem is nobody can stop them, simply because they are not human beings but bats.
These bats have sneaked into every colony, terrorising everyone with their presence. The people are having sleepless nights.
If some doctors are to be believed, a different virus of rabies, which might pose a grave threat to the environment, normally affects bats.
Rumours are afloat that a disaster is in the offing.
Bhopal witnessed a sudden increase in the bats' population during the year 1984, the black year in the history of India when thousands of lives were lost due to the gas leak at the Union Carbide's plant.
Prem Chand Jain, a resident, said: "It's really surprising and the bats are said to carry bad omen. They hover in the sky as if someone is dead. It's surely the indication of some disaster. I still remember, such sudden inflow was witnessed prior to the gas tragedy last time," said Prem Chand Jain, another local resident of Bhopal.
Dr. Jyoti Verma, a resident, said: "As per astrology sudden inflow of bats is inauspicious and poses a grave threat to other animals since they carry rabies virus. May it be Andhra colony or M P Nagar, bats can be found in huge number at all these places."
Some astrologers have warned disaster taking place in the days to come.
Dr. M.A.Khan, an astrologer, said: "There is nothing to worry right now but post 17 July some big disaster might hit the city. Whether this will happen due to sudden invasion of bats or some planetary arrangement is yet to be ascertained."
