Notification for Presidential election today

The Election Commission (EC) will today issue the notification for the Presidential election, scheduled for July 19.

New Delhi, June 16 : The Election Commission (EC) will today issue the notification for the Presidential election, scheduled for July 19.

The last date for filing of nominations is June 30. The scrutiny will take place on July 2 and the last date of withdrawal will be July 4. The counting of votes will take place on July 21.

The term of office of the incumbent President A P J Abdul Kalam ends on July 24.

The President is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the elected members of both Houses of Parliament and of the Legislative Assemblies of the States (including National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry).

The nominated members of either House of Parliament or the Legislative Assemblies of State are not included in the Electoral College

The total value of votes of 4, 896 electors for the 2007 Presidential elections is 10, 98, 882.
