Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today reviewed the progress of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
New Delhi, June 16 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today reviewed the progress of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
He reiterated the need for State Governments to pay greater attention to the reform of urban governance and the modernisation of urban infrastructure with a special focus on the poor in the urban areas.
Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said 63 cities have implemented programmes under the mission, so far.
As per the programmes prepared, six cities - Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam - will now have 100 per cent water supply, and four cities - Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat and Vijayawada - will be fully covered by modern sewerage systems.
Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore, Pune, Thane and Vijayawada will have Bus Rapid Transit Systems as well.
Reddy said 33 cities have implemented e-governance reforms.
Singh further assured members at the meeting that adequate financial resources will be made available provided the commitments undertaken are fulfilled.
