Jirania (West Tripura), June 15 : Nine ultras of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) Biswamohan faction laid down arms before Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Tripura sector, P P Singh in the 23 battalion headquarters at Jirania near Agartala on Friday.Militants said after surrendering that they decamped their base camp at Chittagong Hill Track in Bangladesh due to the fear of the lately launched anti-militants operation by security forces.
They were identified as Hemanto Debbarma (21), a self styled Lance Corporal, Sukha Ranjan Debbarma (23), Pradesh Debbarma (20), Ramdayal Tripura (19), Pradeep Debbarma (23), Nandalal Debbarma (24) Anildayal Debbarma (18), Nantoo Tripura (24) and Bijoy Jamatia (45).
Speaking to ANI, militants revealed that they had joined militant outfits for liberation of Tripura, but now they were fed up with the jungle life due to acute shortage of funds, basic amenities and huge disparity in the lifestyle of the leaders and the cadres.
They said that they had their arms training in CHT of Bangladesh few years back, but at present, movement there has become very tough. They added that most of them were forced to join the false arms struggle for an independent Tripura for the tribal, never to realize.
They hinted that many more cadres are waiting for the right time and scope to surrender.
DIG Singh said that the surrender was a joint effort of the CRPF and the 15 battalion of Assam Rifles (AR). He urged other underground militants to come out and join the national mainstream, and assured them that government shall ensure rehabilitation package.
The militants surrendered one pistol, two US made Sword Muzzle shotguns, three hand grenades, two electronic detonators and a huge quantity of ammunition.
They were listed and were wanted for their involvement in several kidnappings, extortions and attacks on security forces in Dhalai, and North Tripura district.
