New Delhi, June 15 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh took oath as a member of Rajya Sabha here today after being re-elected from Assam recently.Chairman of the House and Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat administered the oath in his Parliament House chamber. Dr. Manmohan Singh took oath in English.
This is Dr. Manmohan Singh's fourth consecutive six-year term in Rajya Sabha.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Ministers, including Shivraj Patil, Lalu Prasad, Ramvilas Paswan, T R Baalu, S K Shinde, Santosh Mohan Deb, P R Dasmunsi and H R Bhardwaj, were present on the occasion.
Rajya Sabha members including S S Ahluwalia and Sitaram Yechury were also present during the oath taking ceremony.
Dr. Manmohan Singh was elected unopposed on May 18, after independent candidate Matang Singh withdrew from the contest.
