Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss today inaugurated the videoconference system connecting Delhi, Puducherry and Kolkata, for counselling of seat allotment for medical and dental courses.
New Delhi, June 15 : Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss today inaugurated the videoconference system connecting Delhi, Puducherry and Kolkata, for counselling of seat allotment for medical and dental courses.
So far, the counselling for seats' allotment was done by appearing in person before the counselling committee located in Delhi.
Counselling through video conference will be held at Central Health Education Bureau in Delhi, JIPMER in Puducherry and All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health in Kolkata.
The candidates have already exercised the option for personal appearance from any of the above three centres.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is entrusted with the task of allotting 15 per cent of all India quota of MBBS and BDS courses and 50 per cent of all India quota of post-graduate medical and dental courses (MD, MS, PG Diploma and MDS).
Under the system, 95 medical colleges and 25 dental colleges recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) are participating.
First round of seat allotment for the MBBS and BDS courses began today and will conclude on June 26.
From Delhi, 1353 students, from Puducherry 199 students and from Kolkata 129 students are seeking admission to 1520 MBBS seats and 161 BDS seats.
The counselling committee at New Delhi will interact with the candidates at Puducherry and Kolkata centres when they appear before the counselling committee through videoconference at their merit number when called for personal appearance.
In the second round of counselling from third week of July to first week of August, the candidates, who have already taken seats in the first round, are given another option to change seats from the available vacant pool and after filling of merit list, the remaining vacant seats will be allotted to the wait-listed candidates.
