Alstom has won a contract worth approximately Rs 1000 crores with Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) for the construction of the first Alstom GT26-based combined cycle power plant in India. This 370 MW plant will be an extension of the existing combined cycle power plant located at Utran, Surat (district), Gujarat, India.
Under the contract, Alstom will provide all engineering, procurement and construction services to deliver a fully integrated combined cycle power plant, with heat recovery steam generator, gas turbine and generator, steam turbine and generator, and DCS (Distributed Control System). Alstom's local entity. ALSTOM Projects India Limited will be responsible for plant engineering, heat recovery steam generator and other equipment supplies along with the entire site construction of the plant amounting to Rs 500 crores
The power plant will be built around Alstom's world-leading GT26 gas turbine technology, which, in combined cycle, is the most efficient gas turbine technology on the market with the highest overall plant efficiency in its class.
The plant will be the fourth combined cycle power plant constructed by Alstom in the state of Gujarat, after Kawas, Gandhar, and Hazira*. It will add up to 10 % to the generating capacity of GSECL.
Philippe Joubert, President of Alstom Power Systems, said: "Thanks to our strong engineering base and increasing presence in India, we are proud of our contribution to the expansion of the Indian power sector and in particular in the State of Gujarat, with a highly efficient combined cycle power plant built around the world-leading GT26 gas turbine. The turbine's excellent efficiency in combined cycle gives more electricity for the same amount of fuel and hence less emissions of CO2."
*Kawas : Frame 9E gas turbine technology - Gandhar: GT13E2 gas turbine technology - Hazira : GT8C2 gas turbine technology
