EC transfers six senior officers in the wake of Madras High Court directive

Acting on the Madras High court directive, the Election Commission today transferred six senior officers, including, Police Commissioner, District Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, for violating guidelines.

New Delhi/Chennai, June 13 : Acting on the Madras High court directive, the Election Commission today transferred six senior officers, including, Police Commissioner, District Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, for violating guidelines.

Earlier in the day, the Madras High Court (HC) today directed the EC to take action, as per law on a complaint that former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief Jayalalitha had filed a "false affidavit" during the 2001 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

The High Court gave the order after admitting a petition filed by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP C Kuppusamy.

In his petition, Kuppusamy has said that Jayalalithaa had suppressed the fact that she had filed nominations from four seats during 2001 Assembly polls.
