Presidential election on July 19

Election for the post of the next President of the country will take place on July 19. This was announced here today by the Chief Election Commissioner, N Gopalaswami.

New Delhi, June 13 : Election for the post of the next President of the country will take place on July 19. This was announced here today by the Chief Election Commissioner, N Gopalaswami.

The notification for the election will be issued on June 16. The counting of votes will take place on July 21.

The term of office of the present President A P J Abdul Kalam is upto July 24.

The President is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States (including National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry).

The nominated members of either House of Parliament or the Legislative Assemblies of State are not included in the Electoral College

The total value of votes of 4, 896 electors for the 2007 Presidential election is 10, 98, 882.
