At least 374 shops were gutted and property worth millions damaged in a major fire that broke out in a crowded market place in Mohali on Friday.
Mohali (Punjab), June 1 : At least 374 shops were gutted and property worth millions damaged in a major fire that broke out in a crowded market place in Mohali on Friday.
Shopowners watched helplessly as their establishments went up in flames.
Fifteen fire engines were used to extinguish the fire.
Shopowners, however, said the extent of damage could have been lessened had the fire brigade come on time.
"The administration is inefficient, it has failed. No one was there to see what has happened. Now everything has gone in flames," said Kiran Anand, a shopowner.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and fire officials said an investigation is being carried out.
"We can't say anything now. We are investigating the cause of fire," said S.K. Gonsai, Fire Officer.
