At least five persons are reported to have lost their lives today, as the Gujjar and Meena communities clashed over formers demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The death toll in the state has risen to 25.
Dausa/ Karauli, June 01 : At least five persons are reported to have lost their lives today, as the Gujjar and Meena communities clashed over former's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The death toll in the state has risen to 25.
According to officials four persons were killed and 20 were injured at Lalsot in Dausa District, while in Karauli District one was killed.
Rajasthan Home Secretary V S Singh said that four were killed and 20 injured in a clash that took place when protestors of the Gujjar community were demanding ST status in Meena-dominated areas.
On Thursday, four were killed in police firing in Sawai Madhopur District.
Rajasthan is experiencing sporadic violence since May 29, when at least 14 people lost their lives over a Gujjar demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
The Gujjar community currently comes under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
