Agartala, July 30 : Two missing persons, including a BSF soldier, are feared dead after they jumped into a flooding river in Belonia of South Tripura district on Saturday last.
Acting on a tip off, the BSF personnel of 102-battalion left his barrack to intercept wood smugglers on Saturday, but did not return.
According to eyewitness, rifleman S K Pande was last seen jumping along with a villager into the flooding Mohuri river near the Belonia border to stop floating woods and has since then gone missing.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a BSF jawan from the forest of Naraifang in the same district, 140 km from here.
Local villagers said that after finding a body hanging from a tree they hurried to inform the police.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the decomposed body.
The deceased has been identified as Pratap Chandra Ray.
Post mortem of the body was conducted but the cause of the death could not be ascertained.
However, police suspected that miscreants from other side of the border may have killed the soldier.
