The newly formed Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), today met Goa Governor S C Jamir, and demanded the dismissal of the Digambar Kamat-led government.
Panaji, July 27 : The newly formed Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), today met Goa Governor S C Jamir, and demanded the dismissal of the Digambar Kamat-led government.
The GDA headed by the Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar met the Governor as soon as he returned from Delhi today.After the meeting, Parrikar said that he asked the Governor to dismiss the Congress-led government as it has run into minority.The GDA also demanded that the Governor should appoint special observers to ensure smooth conduct of Monday's Assembly session, which would discuss financial demands. This was necessary, as the ruling benches had themselves disrupted the Assembly proceedings on Thursday, Parrikar said.
On Thursday, after reducing Congress-led Government in Goa to a minority, the BJP named a new political group Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA) led by Parrikar.
Less than two months old Congress-led Government was reduced to 18 members in the 40-member Assembly after of one of its allies, the Maharashtra Gomantak Party (MGP), having a strength of two members, and an independent legislator Anil Salgaoncar withdrew their support and joined the BJP coalition.
Adding to the woes, a woman Congress legislator Victoria Fernandes resigned from the State Assembly.
Congress had formed the government with 16 legislators with support from three of NCP, two of MGP, and two independents legislators after it emerged the largest party in June 2 Goa Assembly elections.
