Srinagar, July 26 : As peace slowly takes root in Kashmir, people are taking to soccer to forget the sound of gunshots and grenade blasts.
Football used to be played in the picturesque valley until the advent of militancy. Now, with the threat of this menace dwindling, hundreds of fans recently turned up at a polo ground to see a game of soccer.
The Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) is taking the lead in organising matches so that traumatised people can forget their miseries.
"I think that people are getting a better opportunity and finding relief by watching these matches after two-three years," claimed Zameer Thakur, the president of the association.
Residents welcomed the resurgence of soccer in the valley.
Sayed Ali, a resident, said that for the past two years these matches were being organised, and there was enjoyment all around.
Over 300 budding players between 8-15 age groups participated in a JKFA camp in May, organised in association with Brazil's Troia's International Sports Academy Trust.
