The Chhattisgarh Assembly is discussing the issue of Naxalism at a special session here.

Raipur, July 26 : The Chhattisgarh Assembly is discussing the issue of Naxalism at a special session here.

This is for the first time in the State's history that a special session is being devoted to Naxalism, a menace with which the State has struggled since its inception in 2001.

The in-camera session is being attended by key officials of the State, who are involved with the issue.

Political leaders have justified the need for an in-camera session on the plea that national security issues can't be discussed in an open house. he special session is expected to come out with a detailed plan on combating the threat.

"We can't discuss strategies regarding anti-Naxal operations in an open house. We hope the Government listens to our suggestions," Leader of the Opposition Mahendra Karma said recently.

According to Asian Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) report, 70 percent of Naxal-related killings in the country in the first quarter of this year occurred in Chhattisgarh.

Twelve of the eighteen districts of the State are affected by the Naxal problem, and after launching of the Salwa Judum campaign in Bastar, Naxal violence has stepped up.

Recently, 55 policemen were killed in an attack in Rani Bodli village of Chhattisgarh.
