Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy on Tuesday suspended all Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members for obstructing the proceedings of the Assembly.
Hyderabad, July 24 : Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy on Tuesday suspended all Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members for obstructing the proceedings of the Assembly.
TDP members were demanding an apology from Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for his remarks against Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu during a heated debate on alleged illegal mining by the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC).
Disallowing the TDP demand, Reddy urged party legislators to return to their seats. This forced Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, substituting for Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah to move a resolution for their suspension. The resolution was adopted by a voice vote.
Later, suspended members walked out of the House.
On Monday, the OMC issue dominated the proceedings in both the Assembly and the Council. In the Assembly, 21 of them, including Naidu were suspended for the duration of Question Hour, and eleven were suspended later.
The issue also rocked proceedings in the Legislative Council, leading to the suspension of seven TDP members and two Independents.
