Two more get life-term in 93 Mumbai bomb blasts case

Resuming its sentencing in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, a special TADA court today gave life-term to planter of the bomb Imtiyaz Ghawate and grenade-thrower Nasim Bharmare.

Mumbai, July 17 : Resuming its sentencing in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, a special TADA court today gave life-term to planter of the bomb Imtiyaz Ghawate and grenade-thrower Nasim Bharmare.

Ghawate and Bharmare were also fined Rs 2.77 lakh and Rs 2.30 lakh respectively.

"The court has held him (Barmare) guilty for criminal conspiracy. For causing the bomb explosion, the court has awarded him life imprisonment. Other accused Imtiyaz Ghawte has also been held guilty for parking an RDX laden scooter in the Dhanji street that is a business area," said special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.

The TADA court has convicted 100 people and so far sentenced 77 in connection with the serial blasts case.

The court has awarded life imprisonment to 14 accused.

The sentencing was held up after some of those convicted had questioned the authority of the anti-terrorism court.

Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, 47, is the most high profile of the convicts. He was found guilty of illegal possession of arms. However, no date has been set for his sentencing.

Those sentenced so far include smugglers, petty criminals, a Bollywood producer and also policemen and customs officials who took bribes to let the explosives through.
