Community radio is nowadays emerging as the medium to exchange information between communities, which is one of the most important aspects of the modern era.

Ludhiana, July 13 : Community radio is nowadays emerging as the medium to exchange information between communities, which is one of the most important aspects of the modern era.

The best way to keep in touch with the community is the radio, and the latest is the 90.4 FM Community Radio, that speaks only about society and the changes taking place in it. Prabjit Bindra, a student said that the community radio educates people about new advancements and also help to become radio jockeys.Guru Nanak Girls College (GNGC) in Ludhiana has taken the initiative to launch Punjab's first and India's third Community FM Radio.

Having a modern studio, a sound digital workshop, backed by a talented and dedicated team, the station initially broadcasted various programmes for 16.5 hours. Contrary to other FM radios, which only focus on English and Hindi, it will also air programmes in Punjabi. Several programmes including health and environment, rural life, history and awareness, Punjabi literature, trade, fashion focus, science culture, art and life and students' corner aired on radio.

Charanjit K Mahal, Principal and Director of station said: "We want the education that we are giving to the 3,000 students at this college, to be delivered to others through the radio."

A research by our intellectuals and educationalists has been made into radio programming and transmission for the benefit of common people. Besides educational, we also have entertainment programmes throughout the day, he added.

As a part of government policy, community radio stations are being established across the country to facilitate development-related and societal changes with the participation of local communities. From entertainment to women empowerment, religious and educational programmes, the community radio also has a major slot for issues concerning the farming community. Community Radio also promotes a rapport between the general public and the administration.
