Hanna Foster case: SC refuses to stay Kohlis extradition to UK

The Supreme Court today refused to stay the extradition of Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, the prime accused in the rape and murder case of Hanna Foster, to the UK, by saying that the case does not deserve any stay.

New Delhi, July 13 : The Supreme Court today refused to stay the extradition of Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, the prime accused in the rape and murder case of Hanna Foster, to the UK, by saying that the case does not "deserve any stay."

The Supreme Court would now be hearing the case on the 20th July.

Father of Kohli had appealed for mercy after a Delhi High Court allowed his son's extradition.

A final decision on Kohli's extradition, however, has to be taken by the Indian Government.

The Delhi High Court on July 6 had dismissed a petition by Kohli challenging his extradition to Britain ordered by a subordinate court.

According to police, Kohli was arrested in Darjeeling District, where he had lived for five months and married a local girl.

He was involved in local Red Cross activities and police tracked him down after Hannah's parents launched an appeal for information.

The Fosters had travelled to India, set up two hotlines and offered a five-million rupee reward for information leading to Kohli's arrest.

Maninder Kohli, who is wanted for questioning by British police, has been in custody in India since he was arrested three years ago from a village close to Nepal border.

He is believed to have fled the UK after the body of 17-year-old Hannah Foster was found in undergrowth on the outskirts of Southampton in March 2003.
