Azad wants India-Pakistan peace talks to pick up speed

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has called for the peace talks between Pakistan and India to pick up pace again.

Budgam (Jammu and Kasmir), July 13 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has called for the peace talks between Pakistan and India to pick up pace again.

Addressing at a public meeting here, Azad described as unfortunate the slowing down of the peace talks.

"We pray to God that Pakistan's internal issues are sorted out so that the peace talks can take off from where they had been six months back," Azad said.

The storming of the Lal Masjid in Islamabad and the street demonstrations against President Pervez Musharraf decision to sack Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary have prevented the bilateral dialogue process from moving forward.

The India-Pakistan peace process was launched in 2004. Since then, both sides have identified eight key areas, or issues, including the Kashmir and Siachen issues, to deliberate on with the objective of fostering greater people-to-people contact after years of suspicion and mistrust.
