The National Conference would take a decision on the issue of joining the Third Front or United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) on Friday, when partys working committee would be meeting here.

Srinagar, July 12, : The National Conference would take a decision on the issue of joining the 'Third Front' or United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) on Friday, when party's working committee would be meeting here.

This was today announced by the party's patron and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, who said that he would be attending the forthcoming meeting of the new alliance in New Delhi.

He also termed his decision of not contesting the 2002 Assembly polls in the State, 'a mistake', and promised that both he and his son, Omar Abdullah, would be contesting the 2008 Assembly polls in the State.

"Not contesting elections in 2002 as a candidate was a mistake as it gave the impression that we (me and my son) are separate. I accept it. But, I won't repeat it in the next elections," Farooq said.

Party President Omar Abdullah said, "People who were talking of freedom up until recently have recognized our agenda and are affirming to it," adding, "We have been clear-cut in our agenda of Greater Autonomy traditionally and those who were talking of freedom up until recently are affirming to our stand".

Omar also welcomed Former State chief secretary Vijay Kumar Bakaya, who joined his party today.
