Director General of Tripura Police K T D Singh today said that the Bangladeshs Interim Governments crackdown on Northeast militants harbouring in its territory is unsatisfactory.
Agartala, 10 July : Director General of Tripura Police K T D Singh today said that the Bangladesh's Interim Government's crackdown on Northeast militants harbouring in its territory is unsatisfactory.
Speaking to reporters at Agartala Press Club, Singh said that the recently surrendered militants who fled from their camps in Bangladesh revealed that there have been more frequent raids on their camps. They have been told not to move with weapons in Bangladesh and have also been asked to disperse.
"But we would like them to take concerted action by arresting them, seize their weapons and put them behind bars but that doesn't seem to happen," said Singh.
In spite of the fact that there is no extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, but Bangladesh had intended then they could easily arrest and hand over the leaders of different militant groups, who are leading a luxurious life in their country without any legal documents, added Singh.
He, however, alleged that the spread of militancy in the Northeast India has been accentuated by the machinations of the Pakistan's ISI, who are concentrating on Bangladesh.
Despite the reduction in militant activities in Tripura, with a large number of militants having surrendered, the ISI is still continuing it process of misguiding and recruiting youths from Tripura for sending them not only to Bangladesh but even to Pakistan for arms and ammunitions training, the DG said.
He warned that with just few months due for the next Legislative Assembly elections in the State, militancy here might rise.
