New Delhi, Dec.5 : China has said that it is firmly opposed to a weapons race in space, and is not in favour of engaging in a space arms race.
Chen Qiufa, vice-minister of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, said: "The ongoing lunar exploration program has no military purposes."
"China will adhere to the principle of peaceful use of space," The China Daily quoted Qiufa, as saying.
He said the task of preventing an arms race in outer space has become "increasingly urgent".
China has been trying to get the legal regime rectified since 2002.
