New Delhi, Dec 3 : Pedestrians violating traffic norms will now find themselves slapped with a challan (monetary fine) in the national capital.
A special drive will be launched by the Delhi Police at six busy intersections of the city from Wednesday, which they say would help in instilling road discipline among the pedestrians.
The six intersections are Sikandra Road-Tilak Marg W-point, Barakhamba Circus-CP Outer Circle, Ashram Chowk, Moti Nagar crossing, Boulevard Road subway and Delhi Gate.
However, police argue that issuing challans is not for creating panic but for educating them about road discipline.
The increase in pedestrian deaths over the years has initiated the police to launch such drive.
Pedestrians are advised to walk on footpaths, and use subways and foot over bridge for crossing the road.
