Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Dec 27 : Two children in Vijayawada astonished everyone here recently by setting new swimming records for their age in the Krishna River that is 1.5 kilometres in width.
Navasakti swam across the Krishna River to and fro, whereas L.S.Mukesh performed the feat twice during a swimming competition organised by the Krishna District Amateur Aquatic Association here.
About 34 children participated in the competition.
"Mukesh's age is about five years and one month and Shakti's age is about three years and seven months. The earlier record is in the name of Jyoti Surekha set in 2002. She swam about four-and-a-half kilometres at the age of four years and eleven months," said Madhu Kumar, the duo's swimming coach. avasakti achieved the feat covering three kilometres in three hours time whereas L.S.Mukesh took four hours and one minute's time to cover six kilometres length in the river.
Both the children come from Tirupati of Chittur District.
Navasakti's is the youngest child to have performed this feat. In 2002, four-year old Jyothi Surekha entered the Limca Book of Records when she swam across the river three times.
The children's swimming coach has advocated the names of these kids for Limca Book of Records.
