BJP won on the plank of good governance and development: Jaitley

BJP General Secretary and in charge of party affairs in Gujarat, Arun Jaitley, has said that Chief Minister Narendra Modi has secured a respectful mandate and that it is a rare election where a party has won on the plank of good governance and development.

New Delhi, Dec 23 : BJP General Secretary and in charge of party affairs in Gujarat, Arun Jaitley, has said that Chief Minister Narendra Modi has secured a "respectful mandate" and that it is a rare election where a party has won on the plank of "good governance and development."

Jaitley said BJP's victory could be attributed to Modi's "immense credibility", and added that Modi provided the necessary edge to BJP's campaign.

He said that the BJP was inherently strongly in Gujarat and had a sound organisational base in the state.

Asked whether BJP's showing in Gujarat would change the party's policies at the national level, Jaitley said a single victory and a "possible victory" in Himachal Pradesh would not lead to any changes but there would be a "lot of resurgence" in the party after the "setback" in Uttar Pradesh.

Commenting on role of Modi at the national level, Jaitley merely said Modi is the BJP's "foremost prominent leader."
