Ludhiana, Dec 21 : Now, people in Ludhiana don't have to search a place that serves quality food with a dash of variety.

Saubhagya restaurant in The Mall area is a favourite among Ludhianvis, especially vegetarians. The restaurant offers varieties of Indian, Chinese and Continental food.

Earlier restaurants in Ludhiana served a maximum of four dishes - 'Dal Makhni', 'Malai Kofta', 'Cheese Tomato' and 'Shahi Paneer'.

The varieties in Indian food are 'Veg Patiala', 'Matar Malai Kofta', 'Chilli Milli', 'Veg Kababdar', 'Veg Singapuri', 'Paneer Hyderabadi' and more.

"We can't make actual calculation of the varieties served but there are at least 180 varieties in Indian, Continental and Chinese. We can confidently say that Indian food has some 80 to 90 varieties," said Honey Tiwari, owner of the restaurant.

To meet orders of any kind, the restaurant has a team of expert chefs. 'Paneer Laziz', 'Veg Patiala', 'Mushroom Chilli' and 'Dal Bukhara' speaks volume of the skills of the chef.

The speciality of the restaurant is 'Chilli Milli', a Mughlai dish and the head chef, Sunder Das, is a master at preparing it. To prepare it one requires fresh vegetables and cream cheese for marinating with green chillis, spices.

"The restaurant serves a number of varieties of food which are not possible to cook at home. We come here just for a change and to feel good," said Anupama, a visitor.

Restaurants are mushrooming in Ludhiana city, which has almost 100 such outlets which are packed to capacity at dinner time.

Rahul, another visitor at Saubhagya, said: "After continuous eating at home everyone wants a change. So, we prefer to come to a restaurant."

Whether it's a birthday party, a kitty party or just a family dinner, restaurants are the favourite destinations.

If Saubhagya is able to identity the popular taste of Ludhianvis, then it's a loud and clear message for the high-end-global fast food merchants.

The restaurant came into existence in 1997.
