At 3:30 p.m. on December 21, 2007, Globus, the fashion store created a new World record for the World's Largest Christmas Stocking. This spectacular event kicked off the season of good cheer which will end just before the New Year on 30th December 2007. The final gigantic measurements of the Globus Christmas Stocking created by Globus Design Hub are 111 feet tall and 30 feet wide, heel to toe, with a girth of 14 feet, and the stocking sure does promise to be the most spectacular sight of the holiday season!
This super-sized ornament has been built using 525 meters of High GSM velvet and fur fabrics. Built in just 4 days, 40 people worked for 40 hours each to finish this humungous task. To make the stocking stand upright, it has been structured with metal and ply in 2 parts with the stitched stocking fabric covering it, and it has been propped against the Globus outlet wall. The stocking metal structure has been made in a workshop, while the stitching happened in a factory. The final assembling of the entire stocking has taken place outside the store in Bandra.
The stocking stretches across the entire height of the store, and will be filled with clothes/toys /books/stationeries to start celebrating the season of giving. These gifts will then be handed to the NGOs, CPAA and CCDT.
Vijaya Ghose, Editor, Limca Book of Records quoted, "The Christmas stocking put up by GLOBUS for the Christmas season of 2007 in Mumbai will feature in the Limca Book of Records 2009 as the Tallest Stocking, provided their record of 111 feet is not broken by anyone else by August 31, 2008. The fact that the goodies in the stocking will be distributed among children associated with various NGOs is also a good value addition."
Mumbaikars have been called on to open their heart and donate clothes/toys/books/stationeries (preferably unused) as gifts for children up to 15 years old. The bigger the gift, the better - as the Globus Stocking which is the MOST HUMUNGOUS stocking in the world needs to be filled to the brim! This is no time for stocking-stuffer-sized trinkets!
Expressing their delight at being a part of this record-making event Anita Peter, Director of CPAA said "We at CPAA, feel that our efforts must address not just the treatment but all aspects of the trauma that a cancer patient undergoes. Christmas is a time of joy and hope. Yet cancer creates a financial and psychological burden to the family which drives out all thought of celebration. Through the present event we are trying to inject a festive spirit into the life of patients. We thank Globus for their initiative."
On this grand occasion, Sara Lizia D'Mello, Director, CCDT said, "A child is God's gift to the world, what we give to the child who needs our love and support is our gift to God. In this festive season let us all spread the message of love and joy to all around us."
In exchange for the Mumbaikar's help in filling the WORLD'S TALLEST CHRISTMAS STOCKING, Globus is giving out coupons that entitle the largest donator of gifts to a free Christmas Goody Bag. This coupon is valid till 31st Dec, 2007. Christmas Santa will be on hand to take special photos of the customers besides the magnificent stocking while they put their gifts into the stocking. This photograph can be taken home as a souvenir of their participation in this historic occasion! Also the one who contributes the most gifts for the day will be winning a surprise from the store!
A similar event will be sparked off in the cities of Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi, though on a much smaller scale, with stockings measuring 15 feet. The gifts from these stockings will go to Parikrama Foundation, RASA and Make a Wish Foundation respectively.
It's time to start celebrating this joyous gifting season with generosity and good will. The NGO's, CPAA, CCDT, Parikrama Foundation, RASA and Make a Wish Foundation together hope to help make the Christmas of thousands of children in India a little more merry and bright through this holiday gift drive. With the Mumbaikar's help, Globus hopes that the children of CPAA and CCDT can have a great start with the WORLD'S TALLEST IN CHRISTMAS STOCKING!
