Justice Chopra Committee submits report on Gujjar status to Rajasthan Government (Laed:Chopra Committee report)

The Justice Jasraj Chopra Committee, which was constituted by the Rajasthan Government to examine the Gujjar communitys demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, today submitted its report to the Government.

Jaipur, Dec 17 : The Justice Jasraj Chopra Committee, which was constituted by the Rajasthan Government to examine the Gujjar community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, today submitted its report to the Government.

Justice (retired) Chopra submitted the report to Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundra Raje at her office.

According to the State Government, the report will be discussed by the Cabinet tomorrow.

The submission of the report, was however, marred by the resignation of Rajasthan Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kirorilal Meena, who is opposed to giving the Gujjars Scheduled Tribes status.

According to sources, Meena's resignation letter was delivered by his wife, Golma Devi to the Chief Minister Office and the state party headquarters.

Earlier, BJP state president Mahesh Sharma had said that he did not see possibility of Gujjar and Meena communities clashing, as the report was unlikely to hurt the interests of any community.

The State Government constituted the Committee on June 13 after reaching an understanding with representatives of the Gujjar Reservation Action Committee.

That agreement was preceded by a week-long agitation throughout the state that left 25 people dead and scores of others injured.

The Committee was initially formed for a term of three months, but later the State Government extended the term by another three months.
