Jaipur holds sand biking championship

Bikers from across the country participated in the National Bike Race Championship to exhibit their motocross biking skills in Jaipur.

Jaipur, Dec 17 : Bikers from across the country participated in the 'National Bike Race Championship' to exhibit their motocross biking skills in Jaipur.

The participants being fairly new to motocross sport, found biking on sand and mud quite challenging.

The national level Motocross event, a form of motorcycle sport held on enclosed off road circuits, was organised by the 'Society for Adventure Awareness Humanity and Automobile Sports (SAHAAS)' to promote motocross sports in the country as it is yet to gain popularity in India.

"It has been just announced that this sport will be conducted twice a year henceforth. So, we'll sure come here twice every year to participate in the race. Next time, I'll come with full vigour and preparation. This, being the first time, it was okay," said Ishwar Singh Wagela, a participant.

Bhawani, another participant, added, "Pickup and acceleration becomes very difficult in sand racing. We need more practice. On road, these things become easies, but for racing on sand we certainly need practice."

The event organisers feel that the sandy tracks of Rajasthan can attract many other national and international organisers to bring forth motocross sport to this part of the country.

The competition one of the biggest events of its kind in Rajasthan with 73 participants in eight different categories was witnessed by a large enthusiastic and cheering audience.

The pink city will host more such events for the sport lovers.
