By Pinaki DasAgartala, Dec 15 : Kabyalok, a Kolkata-based theatre group, recently organised a workshop to hone acting skills of youngsters in Tripura.
The main purpose behind the workshop was to rejuvenate the dying art of theatre in the age of cinema and television.
After a week-long training programme, children produced and enacted a play.
"I like it. All of us who have participated in this workshop are determined to do something. Our main aim is to do something beyond, whatever we have learnt or were taught in this workshop," said Paromita Debnath, a student.
More than 40 children participated in the workshop.
Trainers also held discussions with the children's guardians and discussed different aspects of drama and child psychology and how plays help ensure all-round development.
"Theatre has been an integral part of human civilization. It's a fascinating aspect of human relationship that when in silence you participate and create," said Surajdebnath, a trainer.
Some parents took keen interest and felt that such workshops should be held frequently to hone children's creative skills."Children understand drama. In the workshop children learnt the technique of talking on the stage, understanding the audience, elders and respecting them," said Pompy Muzumdar, a parent.
Renowned theatre artistes Rudraprashad Sengupta and Debsankar Haldar from Kolkata conducted the training programme.
With the return of normalcy in Tripura more and more people are exploring newer facets and avenues, which had remained hidden and unexplored in more uncertain times dogged by militancy.
