A fire broke out today in an industrial area housing chemical units in suburban Malad here, but there were no reports of injuries so far.
Mumbai, Dec 15 : A fire broke out today in an industrial area housing chemical units in suburban Malad here, but there were no reports of injuries so far.
DCP, Malad Zone, Makarand Rande, said, "The blaze started around 6.30 a.m. and engulfed small scale units in this area. Plastic moulding work is done in these units and a lot of plastic raw material, machine oil and other hazardous chemicals are present there".
The cause of the fire is being ascertained.
Fifteen fire engines and five jumbo tankers were dispatched to control the fire. Ambulances were also sent to the spot.
Sources said the industry is 50 years old.
According to eyewitnesses, there are about 1200 small-scale units in the industrial area, of which around 50 units were affected by the fire.
