Kazakhstan will chair the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2010.

New Delhi, Dec.10 :Kazakhstan will chair the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2010.

This was announced last month in Madrid at the Ministerial meeting of the OSCE after the discussion of the country's bid for the chairmanship in the organization.

Kazakhstan's delegation headed by Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin issued a statement.

It said: "For five-years Kazakhstan has conducted an active campaign on promotion of its bid for the presidency in the OSCE. We consider that the election of Kazakhstan to the post of the OSCE head will have multiplicative effect for the comprehensive modernization of our country, and renewal of the organization to the benefit of all its participants".It is for the first time in the history of the organization that the Chairmanship is given to a country from the post Soviet space.

"We have gained really a great victory. Kazakhstan has managed to prove its leadership in the region and that it meets all criteria of the organization's head", Kazakhstan's Secretary of State Kanat Saudabayev said.

Kazakhstan has a reputation of a main integrator at the post-Soviet space.

Thanks to its proactive international and regional policies of peace and security, internal stability, excellent record of religious and ethnic tolerance Kazakhstan has received full support of OSCE member-states to chair the organization.

It is regarded as a country who can enrich with its experience the activities of OSCE in all its dimensions.
