Bangalore, Aug 9 : The Taj Mahal, created with red and white roses, is one of the major attractions at the annual Independence Day flower show at Bangalore's Lalbagh.

The flower replica is a tribute to the Taj Mahal, which has been specially designed to commemorate its entry into the world's wonders list.

Rohit Kulkarni of Karturi and Sons, a global cut flower giant, said that over 60,000 roses have been used to create this Taj Mahal miniature.

Two types of roses which include the 'Grand Gala' (red rose) and the white rose have been extensively used in this creation, Kulkarni added.

The Lalbagh Botanical Garden is in full bloom, and flowers lovers waited in queue to take their photographs.

Lalbagh has also got other attractions such as the flower miniature of the 'launching of a space shuttle', which is made of more than 26,000 roses. This miniature reflects the success of development in India.

Seema Ghar and Kalidas Raj, the creators of this miniature, said that nearly two lakh rupee was spent on the project, which took a week to make work. The other attractions included works of art created out of plants (topiary), and giraffes, elephants, tigers and bears created out of plants.

The flower show, which began today, will continue till August 15.

Britishers, Suzze and Franke said the flower show made them feel at home.

For Balakrishna Rao and his wife, who have been regular visitors to flower shows for 35 years, this flower show, they said, was particularly impressive because of the Taj Mahal.

Bangalore residents, Smitha, Kaveri and Jayshri said the flowers where well laid out.

The 'Glass House' is filled with over 100,000 roses of different varieties, besides orchids and sunflowers.

About 150 new varieties of plants and flowers have been added to the existing 1,854 varieties at Lalbagh garden this year.
