Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today expressed the hope that India and Bangladesh would continue to tackle various problems in the water resources sector to better the lives of millions of people in the two countries.

New Delhi, Aug 9 : Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today expressed the hope that India and Bangladesh would continue to tackle various problems in the water resources sector to better the lives of millions of people in the two countries.

After meeting the Bangladesh delegation here, he said the two sides agreed to exchange the constructions details to execute river bank protection works in order to bring transparency and remove apprehensions from either side, and recommended to Joint River Commission for consideration.

A Bangladesh delegation led by Syed Mohammad Zobaer, Secretary of Water Resources of Bangladesh Government and comprising various other officers, called on Soz.

Gauri Chatterji, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources and other senior officers of the Ministry were also present at the meeting.

The Bangladesh delegation was in New Delhi for a two-day meeting of the Secretaries of Water Resources of both countries to discuss pending issues between the two sides related to water resources sector.

Earlier, at the 36th meeting of the Indo-Bangladesh Joint Rivers Commission (JRC), held in September, 2005, both sides discussed the issues relating to river bank protection works, lift irrigation schemes, dredging, drinking water supply schemes on common border rivers.
