The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for placement of a contract with Messers Arianespace (of Europe) for the launching of GSAT-8 and INSAT-4G.
New Delhi, Aug 9 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for placement of a contract with Messer's Arianespace (of Europe) for the launching of GSAT-8 and INSAT-4G.
About 67.5 million dollars would be invested in the contract, along with an option for an additional launch, and also waiver of the Bank Guarantee requirements.
This will facilitate the timely launch of GSAT-8 and INSAT-4G by 2008-09.These satellites will provide 18 high power Ku-band (DTH quality) transponders to the INSAT System along with the second Geo Stationary augmentation payload for the Global Positioning System (GPS) and GEO Augmented navigation (GAGAN).
This will also facilitate a number of services in the field of navigation, telecommunications, TV broadcasting and distribution, Ku-band VSAT, broadband services, digital video broadcast, rural areas communications and distance education.
