Center releases DVDs on freedom struggle, Mahatama Gandhi

The Centre on Thursday released DVDs Swarajnama and Mahatama on the different facets of Indias freedom struggle and the life of Mahatama Gandhi.Information and Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi released the DVDs brought out by Prasar Bharati here.

New Delhi, Aug 9 : The Centre on Thursday released DVDs 'Swarajnama' and 'Mahatama' on the different facets of India's freedom struggle and the life of Mahatama Gandhi.Information and Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi released the DVDs brought out by Prasar Bharati here.

Dasmunsi presented the first copy of the DVD, based mainly on the material retrieved from Doordarshan archives, to eminent theatre personality Girish Karnad, who has directed 'Swarajnama.'

Dasmunsi said these DVDs would be of immense value for the youth, as they provide a deep insight into India's history of freedom movement.

Praising Prasar Bharati's effort in bringing out these DVDs, he said that the government broadcaster has already launched a project of rendition of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's songs in Hindi and other Indian languages.

Beginning with 1757, Swarajnama recounts 190 years of India's freedom struggle, and is in a newscast format. 'Mahatama' has been directed by Brijendra Virehi. It remembers and focuses on the values that Mahatama loved and cherished.

Noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande and Secretary, I and B, Asha Swarup were also present on the occasion among others.
