Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today directed the Union Finance Ministry and the Fertilizer Ministry to ensure that adequate funds are available to meet the disbursal requirements for fertilizer subsidy.

New Delhi, Aug 8 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today directed the Union Finance Ministry and the Fertilizer Ministry to ensure that adequate funds are available to meet the disbursal requirements for fertilizer subsidy.

Dr. Singh, who chaired a meeting to review issues pertaining to availability of funds for fertilizer subsidy, said: "While the existing subsidy system may have to be reviewed in the future, the Government was committed to the present system and will ensure that adequate funds are available to meet the requirements this year."

The Prime Minister's Office will resolve matters in this regard.

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Fertilizer Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, T K A Nair attended the meeting.
