The Supreme Court today granted permission to jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin to cast his vote in the vice-presidential election, slated for August 10.
New Delhi, Aug 8 : The Supreme Court today granted permission to jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin to cast his vote in the vice-presidential election, slated for August 10.
Justice B N Agarwal asked Bihar Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha and Siwan Jail Superintendent to bring Shahabuddin with sufficient police escort to the Parliament House on the day of voting.
Shahabuddin would have to bear his travelling cost, the court said.The court also said that Delhi Police Commissioner YS Dadwal would co-operate in the matter.
On June 30, a Special court of Siwan had sentenced Shahabuddin to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2005 case of keeping stolen vehicle.
However, Shahabuddin was acquitted in a 1990 kidnapping case.
The MP is lodged in Siwan Jail since 2005.
