The NDA has the backing of 240 members, while the stand of two of its key partners - the Shiv Sena and the Trinamool Congress -- is still unknown. The UNPA has 81 members.A successful candidate needs to secure 393 votes.

The term of Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat ends on August 18.
