Srinagar, Aug 8 : Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, chairman of the moderate fraction of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, today led a protest staged by Kashimiris to demanded a probe into a spate of disappearances in the Valley.

"It is a serious matter and I believe that the State Government has not even spoken 18 words on the matter for 18 years," Farooq said.

"Today, we are neither shouting slogans nor demonstrating, but only taking out silent protest and through this protest we want to arouse the consciousness of the common man. At least, the government should make a statement and tell grieving parents who are living with the hope that their loved ones will one day return," he added.

Parents holding photograph of their loved ones and banners reading 'Where is my son?' took out protest rally.

Demonstrators also observed fifteen minutes silence to mark their protest.
