Kanpur, Aug 7 : At least thirty-two passengers of the Jodhpur-Howrah Express were injured when the train derailed at Juhi Bridge near here on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said that two engines and four coaches of the train derailed at the Juhi Bridge, about 8 kilometres from Kanpur, but no casualties were reported.
Gurbachan Singh, Inspector General, Railways, said that if the coaches had overturned, then there would have been a chance of casualties.
"Doctors have informed me that none (of the 15 injured) have sustained serious injuries," Singh added.
However, a Railways Ministry release said that seven passengers were grievously injured.
Rescue workers and a railway medical team swung into action to pull out passengers from the derailed coaches.
The injured have been shifted to Railway hospital and civil hospitals at Hallot and Ursula in Kanpur.
Railways have made on the spot payment of an ex-gratia of rupees five thousand for grievous injured persons and rupees five hundred for those who received simple injuries.
R.K. Kardam, Commissioner Railway Safety, Northern Circle will conduct the enquiry into the accident.
Later, the train with additional three coaches resumed its onward journey to Howrah.
