Patna, Aug 6 : At least 50 people are feared drowned when a boat carrying 130 passengers overturned in the midstream of River Ganga today.
The country boat was sailing towards Patharghat from Harpur-Saidabad.
The boat lost control and overturned because of swift easterly winds in the swollen river, officials said.
Fifty people were feared drowned, while others swam to safety or were rescued, they said.
So far two bodies have been recovered.
The rescue operations were hampered due to darkness, said officials.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil are scheduled to undertake an aerial survey of flood ravaged Bihar on Tuesday and would assess the extent of the damage caused by the natural calamity.
