Team leader of the expedition, Major Vishal Ahlawat of the Army's Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME), said the exercise was aimed to motivate youth to join the army, besides creating awareness about the games.

The Director General of the EME, Lieutenant General Arvind Mahajan, lauded the efforts of the team.

The group of 15 army men will cover over 4,000 kilometers (2500 miles) on bicycles from Leh to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu in a time frame of 20 days.

The Indian Armed Forces will host the Fourth Military World Games (MWG) 2007 in Hyderabad and Mumbai from October 14-21 for the first time under the aegis of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
